| Huge riffs, Soaring melodies, and expansive improvisations are just some of the hallmarks of Absinthe's legendary live shows. An eclectic combination of musical influences blended into their own style, whether their playing their own, well crafted tunes, or breathing new life into classic blues and rock numbers.
Comprised of three musicians - guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Rhys Williams, drummer Joel Peters, and new bassist Xavier Dhorne - whose powerful musicianship and chemistry along with their tireless work ethic have earned them the respect of their peers and fans. 'A melting pot of Blues, Rock, Soul, Funk and Jazz creates the epic 'Absinthe' sound that is entirely their own' - Brecon Jazz Festival With electic influences, rooted in the blues, varying from The Allman Brothers, Clapton, Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin and Free right up to John Coltrane, Gov't Mule, Derek Trucks, and Frank Zappa, they've been thrilling audiences all over the UK for the last two years, wowing them with their feel for the music at such a young age, they're all still 18. 'The most exciting and spirited unsigned band around' - Valleys Radio Having achieved radio and press coverage and critical acclaim for their debut CD "On Tap" their originals take on a new and fresh form on a live stage, never the same two nights in a row. The band are always looking for bigger challenges onstage and in the studio. 'Boy can these guys Jam!' - Brecon Jazz Festival Lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Rhys started playing guitar at age 8. Raised on a diet of Blues and Blues based rock, such as The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Band, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Cream and Free, he has a gravel-throated voice reminisent of the great blues/rock singers of the 70s and a remarkable, soulful feel for electric blues guitar. Providing the rhythm section that is the backbone of the band is Joel Peters, a rock solid drummer driving each song along and weaving in and out of guitar fills and bass riffs. Eclectic musical tastes that include, Govt mule, Nickelback, Metallica, Phil Collins, Kings Of Leon and Cream, provide him with a wide array of rhythms and grooves and his drum solos are considered by many to be the highlight of any Absinthe show. After having parted company with original bass player Lee Spencer, the band has found a worthy replacement to step into his shoes. Since his induction into the band in late September, bassist Xavier Dhorne has already begun to fuse his distinctive style into the band's collective 'voice'. Xav provides the funky undertones that compliment the rest of the band's sound. Drawing on his wide ranging influences, such as Led Zeppelin, Manu Chao, and Paul Zerdin, he creates a full and dynamic groove without even breaking sweat.
